2019
Since 31st December, 2019, in accordance with the provisions of Article 16 and Articles 21 to 23 of the Waste Disposal Ordinance, the disposal of regulated electrical waste (i.e. air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, televisions, computers, printers, scanners and monitors) are subject to licensing control. Unless with exemptions, anyone storing, processing, or recycling electrical waste must first apply for a Waste Disposal Licence.
Except with other requirements, the operation of waste disposal must comply with all the requirements, regulations, quality standards and targets under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, Water Pollution Control Ordinance and Noise Control Ordinance. Any discharge resulting from the operation of waste disposal will not and cannot endanger public health, and will not constitute the source of environmental pollution, or the source of nuisance to neighboring areas.
The above-mentioned Producer Responsibility Scheme on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (PRS on WEEE) scheme implemented by the Hong Kong government has set another important milestone for the recycling industry in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department granted the waste disposal licence under the PRS on WEEE scheme to Chun Yang Group since 18th June, 2019, with an approved quota for processing 29,925MT of electrical waste per year.
