On 20 January 2022, Chun Yang International (HK) Company Limited was awarded the first “Waste Disposal Licence (Waste EV Batteries )” in Hong Kong issued by the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department.
The Hong Kong EPD issued the “ROADMAP ON POPULARISATION OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES” in March 2021, which pointed out Hong Kong strives to achieve the target of zero vehicular emissions before 2050 in order to facilitate the attainment of carbon neutrality within the same time frame and improve air quality concurrently. The Environmental Protection Department has been maintaining close liaison with the industry and electric vehicle suppliers to explore locally applicable solutions.
Current Handling and disposal of retired EV batteries are regulated under the Waste Disposal Ordinance (Cap. 354) and its subsidiary Waste Disposal (Chemical Waste (General) Regulation (Cap. 354C).
