Recently, the RTHK program “Hong Kong United” visited the EcoPark to learn about recycling industry development in Hong Kong. Ms. Kwok Ho Yee, the Managing Director of Chun Yang International (HK) Company Limited, was invited to introduce sustainable EV battery solution and the recycling process for the public.
Ms. Kwok explained that EV batteries, while in operation, will degrade gradually until reach the end of life. The “Hong Kong’s First EV Battery Processing Plant”, which is currently under construction, will process retired EV batteries in eco-friendly ways in the future. She introduced that the Plant, as a licensed collector, will collect batteries from local car dealerships and agents, conduct cascade utilization and metal extraction based on various statuses of batteries. After technical processing, these batteries could either being reused in small energy storage systems or directly turned into raw battery materials, thereby completing the recycling of retired EV batteries.
Since obtaining Hong Kong’s first Waste EV Battery Disposal License in 2022, Chun Yang International has reached full compliance in the process of “transportation-disposal-export” of EV batteries. In addition, under the strong support of Envision Greenwise Group’s extensive network of partners, Chun Yang International continues to work with global partners to develop sustainable solutions for EV batteries, and has achieved a recycling rate of over 97%. In June 2024, Chun Yang International officially started the construction of “Hong Kong’s First EV Battery Processing Plant”, after completion, the Plant will adopt advanced technology to upgrade EV battery disposal techniques, promote the development of new quality productive forces in Hong Kong, and contribute to the development of green transportation and circular economy worldwide.
